Jet-setters alike can now migrate to the beta release of Driftr.com, a social network dedicated to user generated content “by travelers, for travelers.” Based in Venice, CA, the site allows its users to upload trip photos, recommend and review places during travel, and keep track of where they’ve been and where they’re going.

I had a quick chat with Erick Laubach, co-founder and CEO of Driftr, Inc:

***

JA: Where are you based?

EL: Venice, CA

JA: When did you launch?

EL: October 2007

JA: How would you say your community is set apart from other travel sites? How is it innovative?

EL: We are a next generation travel community. The basic idea is to connect people more efficiently while integrating with and leveraging features from existing sites and communities. This means our members don’t have to upload information in multiple places. For example, we allow our users to stream photos from Flickr rather than uploading again to Driftr.com. Of course, the ability to upload on Driftr is also available as an option.

On Driftr, you can choose to only interact with your friends or you can expand your research to include everyone in the Driftr community. Browse destinations by looking at the profiles of Driftrs whose photos, reviews, and blogs you respect and find interesting. Then, once you go on your own travels, you can share your opinions with the Driftr community making the site even richer.

We have a huge list of features we’re going to roll out over the next few weeks/months that will further set Driftr apart including trip comments, messaging, customized profiles, mobile trip uploads, and the all important Faceboook and Open Social applications.

JA: What is your overall goal with a site like this?

EL: Two fold. First, to give our members a place to organize, document, and share trip photos, reviews, and blogs with friends and family. This gives you one central place to save all of your adventures. Second, to get unbiased reviews of different travel spots so you can research the perfect destination before you book a trip.

JA: Where do you see it in about 2 years?

EL: Driftr has already grown by leaps and bounds in the first few months we’ve been live. In two years, we see Driftr as a leader in the travel space with a thriving community of loyal, dedicated members.

JA: How is it beneficial to me as a traveler?

EL: You now have one central place to document all your trip photos, reviews, and blogs, plus you have a personal travel map to view all the places you’ve been too (bragging rights!)… and when you’re ready to go on that next trip, you can get unbiased reviews and recommendations from fellow Driftrs.
